When Miss D contacted us to schedule her first ever Boudoir Session in our Charleston, SC studio, she was so anxious you could hear it in her voice. Once we chatted for a bit and went over options for her session, she was much calmer and super excited to spend her birthday with us.
How old were you are your session? 48 On the day!! Happy Birthday to me 🎂
What made you decide to book a session? I was recently divorced, moved 600 miles from a place I’ve lived all my life. I have made some horrible mistakes and let them determine every step. Being with the wrong people that would tell me no one would want me with 3 kids, and now who would even want me with grandchildren! NEVER feeling confident in myself at all, I constantly picked my body apart. I have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters that need to see me step up and overcome those evil thoughts and not only be proud of myself but have them be proud of me as well.
What was originally holding you back from booking a session? What would my family think, what would people think? Am I way too old, my body is not where it needs to be, I need to lose more weight, I need to tone up, I’m not pretty enough, tan enough, young enough, I am not good enough
What were you most nervous about for your session? Not being able to be comfortable enough to walk around in front of Lisa, unable to do the poses. what if I look dumb, all the what ifs.....
What were you most looking forward to prior to your session? Being pampered; hair and makeup and having me time!
How did you feel about yourself before your session? I was extremely nervous, I almost canceled many times. Maybe I should wait, maybe this isn’t for me.
Describe your experience. From the time I booked, Lisa keeps you posted every step of the way, suggestions on purchases for outfits, nails, hair, tanning etc. said not to procrastinate and don’t get sunburned (I failed miserably) You have an immediate connection with her. From her Facebook group, phone conversations, texts, emails. It really did seem we knew each other for years. Then when you walk in those doors it’s magical! The studio is stunning! So upbeat and fun! I could not stop sweating and talking Once hair and makeup was done, my nerves started all over again. Lisa goes through your outfits and lines them up for you.She poses you, all while talking about life and really opens you up. Seriously one of the best experiences of my life!
How did you feel about yourself after your session? I was on fire! My adrenaline was at an all time high! I probably talked 100 miles a minute, and went straight to my daughters house to fill her in.
Were you nervous before viewing your images? I was more excited I think than nervous
How did you feel about yourself after seeing your images? OMG! I think I said that 1000 times. I was able to bring my oldest with me (I think she was determined to get through that door with me) I am totally in love with every flaw (that I see) and honestly no one else cares . I know I am me! I felt gorgeous and needed that! If I am not good enough for someone then they aren’t the someone for me.
What were your favorite products? The album and the wall art! All of them
What would you tell anyone interested in, but maybe hesitant, booking a session of their own? Do it! This is a game changer! Love and invest in yourself, you owe it to you!
How as working with Lisa and the makeup artists? Working with Lisa and the makeup artist was so fun, they truly talk to you as if you were best friends. I could immediately open up about my life and just chat.
Will you be doing another session? I would love to do another at 50!
Anything else you'd like to add? My youngest daughter is 15, I was extremely nervous to tell her, or for her to see my pictures. That week Billie Eilish was featured on Vogue. My daughter showed me the pictures and how talked about how much she loved them, she is all for women’s rights and empowerment. I kept asking her questions about her thoughts on it. I had some of the photos on my phone from the flash drive and said well...Guess what your mom really did on her birthday?!? She yelled MIMI!!!!!It was not the reaction I expected. She was so excited and proud and could not believe it. After receiving my album and wall art, I again was unsure, I handed her the full album and said have at it, handcuffs and all! My 5 year old granddaughter was in awe ❤️ of my gold sparkly “bathing suit” I think she asked her mom if I used to be a pop star. She asked to borrow the outfit when she gets big and wants pictures done too!
